The
place where people meet on an international level
The
center and pivoting point at all activities of
the German-American Association is the Peter-Folkerts
House named after the former mayor of Bonndorf
who had been a founding member and strong supporter.
Peter Folkerts died in a plane crash in
1993.
The
house, previously a school building, is now an international
meeting place thanks to enormous personal engagement
and financial support of many. The German-American
Association leased the building from the city of
Bonndorf. Within the last months, a lot of modernization
repairs have been done. The Peter-Folkerts-House
has got a new roof and front. "We finally reached
a level of full functioning" said Werner
Dörflinger, president of the German-American
association. So all modernizations since 1990 finally
came to an end.
Among
past visitors have been Lumberjacks from Canada,
kids from Poland, sportsmen from the USA and church
members from Germany. They all loved it. By the
last months, the building was repeatedly booked
by music, theater and dance clubs for weekend trainings.
The house is operated on a self-supporting basis
and has 30 beds available, modern sanitary facilities,
a large gym with a stage and last but not least
a modem kitchen with up to date equipment, thus
providing a basis for various activities of different
groups.

The
charming Black Forest area around Bonndorf and the
nearby Wutach Canyon are superb attractions as are
the nearby Feldberg (the highest mountain in the
Black Forest) and the Schluchsee (lake), both offering
many outdoor activities.
